Jon Gutierrez is a Mexican-American comedy writer who was born and raised in Groton, CT. A Navy brat, Jon grew up in a family of doctors and worked as an EMT on an ambulance service at the age of 16. But he soon threw away a lucrative medical career to work in a “professional clown store” demonstrating magic tricks. He went on to major in Political Science/Journalism at the University of Connecticut, which really cemented his eventual poverty. After working as a small-town newspaper reporter and a Miami business reporter, he moved to New York to edit the nerd-humor magazine ToyFare, where he wrote and storyboarded the action-figure comic strip Twisted ToyFare Theatre.

While there, he started writing and performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, often sleeping at the theater to do late-night comedy. After writing comedy videos for Marvel Comics, MTV and Fuse TV, he moved to LA to write on the CBS Diversity Sketch Showcase and was staffed on Comedy Central’s late-night show @midnight.

He’s since written on the Collegehumor/Dropout sci-fi sitcom Ultramechatron Team Go!, TruTv’s animated sitcom This Functional Family and the latest season of Mystery Science Theater 3000. He’s currently writing on a new season of the comedy webseries Marvel Super Heroes: What The—?! for Marvel’s YouTube channel.
